As a mark of protest against the state government’s alleged indifferent attitude in addressing the farmers’ problems, Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu would go on an indefinite hunger fast at New MLA Quarters in Adarsh Nagar from December 17.
The decision to this affect was taken after the TDP chief convened a TD Legislature Party meeting with his MLAs at NTR Trust Bhavan to discuss the future course of action to be adopted over the farmers’ woes.
According to sources, the overwhelming consensus that emerged at the meeting was to force the government to act. The party rank and file also advised Mr Naidu that a sit-in protest would be the best option.
Sources say that the TDP chief’s decision to go on an indefinite hunger strike was met with approval by the TDLP. It was also suggested that the Indira Park, NTR Ghat and Tank Bund would be the best possible venues where the TDP chief should embark on his hunger strike.
Mr Naidu however chose the New MLA Quarters for the venue of his hunger fast. Ten MLAs from the party would also participate in the hunger fast along with Naidu.
Mr Naidu had earlier announced plans to launch his hunger fast on Thursday. However, the leaders advised him against this, saying that the attention would be on the Maha Garjana by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in Warangal.
