Amidst thumping of desks, the Lok Sabha on Monday hailed the latest feather in the cap of ace badminton player Saina Nehwal who had won the Hong Kong Super

Series tournament on Sunday.

The Lok Sabha, in turmoil over the agitation for a JPC probe into the 2G allocation scam, witnessed a few minutes of bonhomie and camaraderie as the Members forgot the scam and hailed Saina’s ‘stupendous performance’.

Speaker Meira Kumar, speaking on behalf of the House, said that the win has established Saina as one of the best players. The Speaker pointed out that Saina had earlier won three other major international tournaments in 2010.

Ms Kumar added that she was sure that all the Members would join her in extending their congratulations to the Hyderabadi girl.

She said that Saina’s “achievements are a matter of national pride and source of inspiration for many a budding sportspersons of our country,"

Ms Kumar also hoped that Saina would continue her winning streak and conveyed her best wishes to the ace shuttler for all her future endeavours.

Saina had defeated Asian Games gold medallist Shixian Wang of China to clinch the Hong Kong Open on Sunday.
