Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu, along with about 35 of his party MLAs took out a padayatra from the NTR Ghats to the State Assembly on Saturday, to protest against alleged negligence by the government in providing relief to the farmers affected by floods.
Talking to media persons at the NTR Ghats before he embarked on the Padayatra, Mr Naidu said that, “The government has totally failed to look at the issues facing the farmers of the state. It could have taken care of the issue of lifting of cases by making an announcement on the Floor of the House and devoted the precious time to the issues of farmers.”
The Leader of the Opposition stated that the problems of the farmers, who were already reeling under loans, were now hit by successive cyclones and heavy rains.
He said that, “not only the paddy, but even the seeds have been discoloured. There has been no action on the part of the government to solve the farmers’ issues. Mere words of solace do not solve the problem.”
He reiterated that the TDP will not rest until farmers of the state get relief and justice. Mr Naidu stated that his party would resort to Rasta Rokos throughout the state. The TDP chief vowed to force the government to announce a comprehensive relief package for the farmers.
The former chief minister also said that the padayatra was part of the TDP protests to raise the issue of the farmers.
