The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) on Wednesday took a decision to defer the ‘Maha Garjana’, a massive show of strength in support of the demand for separate Telangana by a week. The Maha Garjana, which was originally scheduled to be held on December 9 at Hanamkonda in Warangal district, will now be held at the same place but from December 16.
According to TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, the TRS took this decision as the district was experiencing heavy rains due to depression in the Bay of Bengal. Talking to media persons at TRS Bhavan on Wednesday, the TRS leader said that the party had announced the Maha Garjana on December 9 to coincide with the completion of one year of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's announcement on the formation of separate Telangana.
As the Maha Garjana has been deferred in Hanmakonda, the party would organise rallies and hoist Telangana flags across the region coinciding with the Union Minister’s announcement, he stated. He said the proposed meeting would be the first-of-its-kind in the country and would serve as a platform to take the voice of Telangana to the corridors of power in Delhi. The meeting was aimed to mount pressure on Centre to introduce a bill in Parliament in the Budget Session.
KCR said that he expected about 25 lakh persons from various Telangana district to turn up for the Maha Garjana. Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma and Swami Agnivesh will be the chief guests.
