The arguments began when police arrested some of students who had taken part in a rally taken out from the Arts College. The police had stopped the rally at the NCC gates.

The students had earlier begun their protest against the Formation Day celebrations by hoisting a black flag atop the Arts College.

Following the stopping of the rally and the subsequent arrest of students, the students entered into heated arguments with the police.

Demanding the release of students, the JAC activists blocked traffic near Tarnaka circle and warned the powers-that-be of serious consequences.

The students had earlier given a call to all educational institutions to observe a bandh in protest against the Formation Day celebrations.

The students questioned the state government’s move to celebrate the event officially when ‘many Telangana people were resorting to ending their lives for the cause of the Telangana statehood.’

They termed the State Formation Day as a ‘Black Day’ in Indian history.

The police had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents and to maintain law and order in the campus.
