The Congress party should get ‘feelers’ from the Srikrishna Commission on the situation in Andhra Pradesh by November and announce formation of a separate Telangana state by December 9, as birthday gift by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, stated Secunderabad Cantonment MLA P Shankara Rao on Tuesday.
Talking to media persons at the CLP office, Mr Shankar Rao said that, after the announcement of Telangana, the Centre should introduce a Bill in the budget session of Parliament.
The Cantonment MLA said that the Congress was in favour of a Telangana state and has been committed to this from the beginning.
He said the Congress has appointed a sub-committee under the chairmanship of Pranab Mukherjee in 2001 after the Congress leaders from the state approached Congress president Sonia Gandhi and submitted a memorandum to her.
“Only the Congress party can bring a separate state and fulfill the aspirations of Telangana people as it knows the pulse of Telanganaites,” he reiterated.
The MLA revealed that he has written a letter to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Law Minister and state In-Charge Affairs M Veerappa Moily, in this connection.
He hoped that the Congress would come to power in the 2012 by-elections conducted for Telangana and Seemandhra regions.
Mr Shankar Rao praised Chief Minister K Rosaiah for working so hard and efficiently even at his age and criticized the allegations of inefficiency and non-functioning of the government. He said that Mr Rosaiah is being blamed for the non-functioning of his Cabinet colleagues.
The MLA demanded that the Chief Minister revamp the Cabinet and drop inefficient Ministers to streamline the administration.
