Governor ESL Narsimhan and Chief Minister K Rosaiah led the states in paying tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his Birth Anniversary on Saturday.
Mr Narasimhan, along with Mr Rosaiah, Pradesh Congress Committee president D Srinivas, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy, Minister for Information and Public Relations J Geetha Reddy, Rural Development Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar, Health Minister Danam Nagender paid floral tributes to Gandhiji at Bapu Ghat in Langer House.
Senior Bharatiya Janata party leader Bandaru Dattaterya also paid tributes.
Later, Mr Rosaiah also paid garlanded the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the Assembly. Speaker Kiran Kumar Reddy and Legislators also paid tributes.
Earlier, in a message to the people of the state, Mr Rosaiah had said that, “Gandhiji was a multi-faceted genius, a beacon light of peace to the entire humanity, and a legendary adored all over the world.”
The Chief Minister described Mahatma Gandhi as, “not only an apostle of peace but also a leader of indomitable courage who carried the masses with him. Gandhiji humbled the mighty British Empire with non-violence and simplicity, a unique achievement.”
Mr Rosaiah called on the people to follow the example set by Gandhiji and develop a strong faith in 'peace and non-violence'.
The Chief Minister recalled Gandhiji’s patriotic fervour and spirit of service to the poorest of the poor and deprived classes of the society.
He called on the people to pledge to work on Gandhian lines of peace, progress and equality of opportunity to one and all.
