Strong Electoral Reforms need of the hour

India's electoral system, while a cornerstone of its democracy, requires significant reforms to ensure fair representation and greater accountability. Numerous intellectuals and thinkers advocate for a comprehensive overhaul, addressing critical issues that plague the current system.

Strengthening the Foundation:

Linking Aadhaar with Voter ID: This crucial step would prevent Voter fraud and ensure accurate electoral rolls.

Enabling Voting from Anywhere: Implementing a system akin to postal ballots, allowing citizens to Vote from their current location, would enhance Voter participation, especially for migrant workers and students.

Empowering Local Representation:

Restricting Candidacy to Locals: Mandating a minimum residency period of five years in the constituency for MLA candidates would ensure local representation and understanding of regional issues. This prevents "parachute candidates" who lack connection with the constituency.
