HC admits petition to celebrate Telangana Liberation Day

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday accepted a petition seeking to direct the state government to declare September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day officially.

The petition was filed by one Chandrasekhara Reddy, an advocate in the city. In his petition, Mr Chandrasekhara Reddy wondered why the state government cannot observe Telangana Liberation Day even though the neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra state governments have been observing the day officially.

The advocate appealed to court to direct the state government to follow the footsteps of neighbouring states in celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day.

He also urged the government to declare a holiday on that day.
