Amazon Prime Video is now streaming 'Puli - The 19th Century', the Telugu-dubbed version of the Malayalam film 'Pathonpatham Noottandu'. Stunning visuals and arresting action scenes are among the major highlights of this film. The Telugu version of the film, titled 'Puli - The 19th Century', the acclaimed and high-budgeted action period drama, started premiering on the streaming giant on Saturday night.

Starring Siju Wilson as a swordsman, the story is set in the 19th Century Travancore. The premise is arresting. When a notorious robber steals precious jewelry from the sacred Anantha Padmanabha Swami Temple, a warrior named Velayudha Chekavar is deployed by the king to lead a manhunt. The stretch where the robber is hunted down and brought back to the kingdom is filled with a thoroughly engaging screenplay, complete with captivating visuals, sword fights, combats, and adventurous vibes.

When its Malayalam version was released in theatres in 2022, it was feted with overwhelmingly positive reviews and superb ratings. One of the websites opined in its review, "The well-conceived action sequences are one of the mainstays of the film." Some of the publications gave it a whopping 4-star rating, lauding its "stunning visuals, larger-than-life sets, and a taste of history." The film, directed by the vintage Mollywood filmmaker Vinayan, features impeccable performances.

The film makes an attempt to be a commentary on the social evils of the time, including the practice of untouchability and the dehumanizing breast tax. While there are references to historical places, the film is a work of fiction.

Santhosh Narayanan of Nani's 'Dasara', Prabhas' 'Project K', and Venkatesh's 'Saindhav' fame has composed the background score to a scintillating effect.

Cinematographer Shaji Kumar and production designer Ajayan Challissery have delivered A-class work. Costumer Dhanya Balakrishnan and editor Vivek Harshan too were praised by critics.
