The Kerala Story: Supreme Court questioning the states. It is known that Adah Sharma's The Kerala Story directed by Sudipto Sen created a huge controversy and it divided the entire political spectrum.

While few states provided tax benefits, a few states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal banned the film from screening. Following this, the makers approached the Supreme Court citing that a film cannot be banned by states once the Censor Board clears the film for theatrical screening with a censor certificate.

Supreme Court, after hearing the arguments, sent notices to Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. The court questioned, “The movie is being exhibited all over the country, why should [the] West Bengal govt ban the movie, why should you not allow it to run?"

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud noted“The film is running in different parts of the country with similar demographic profiles. This has nothing to do with the cinematic value of the movie, it may be good or bad,"
