Ever since the trailer of The Kerala Story is out, the film landed in controversies. The story which is based on true incidents happened in Kerala depicts the sad state of affairs of non Muslim girls being lured into a trap of Islamic conversion and finally became members of ISIS. The trailer initially claimed that there are 32,000 such girls got converted and joined ISIS but after Kerala governments involvement and controversies, they changed it to 4 girls. Now it faced ban from Tamil Nadu government.
Kerala government also filed petition to stay the film but supreme court allowed the release of the film. Finally the film released in theatres on 5th May and registering very good numbers at the ticket windows with the help of glowing response in social media.
Now, Tamil Nadu government has stopped the film from screening in multiplexes. It can be allowed to screen in single screens. But, being a Hindi film, The Kerala Story is mostly playing at Multiplexes. So, this decision probably ended the story of The Kerala Story in Tamil Nadu. However, the film is not having good occupancies in Tamil Nadu.
Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK) organised a protest near Skywalk Mall against The Kerala Story. Citing this as a reason TN government banned the film from screening in Multiplexes.
