Varalaxmi daughter of Tamil veteran Hero Sarath Kumar is fondly mentioned as Makkal Selvi for her versatile roles and performances. She has made a mark for herself with impressive performances choosing wide variety of roles. Though she started as a heroine but knowing that things are not working that way she is clever enough to switch paths in her acting career. Varalaxmi was introduced into films with Poda Podi co-starring Simbu in Nayanthara's husband Vignesh Shivn 's direction. Though the film didn't do well, Varalaxmi managed to earn recognition as an actor. Then she debuted in Kannada with Sudeep starrer Maanikya which turned to be a blockbuster. She also acted in Malayalam with Mammootty in Kasaba. Her performance in Bala directorial Tharai Thappattai won numerous accolades. Then she acted in films like Vikram Vedha, Nibunan, Vismaya, Sathya etc.,. But she choose to do negative and important roles in 2018. She did villain roles in Vijay starrer Sarkar and Vishal starrer Sandakozhi 2 Pandem Kodi 2 which marked a big break in her career. She also made her direct debut with Sundeep Kishan starrer Tenali Ramakrishna BA BL but her big break in Telugu came with Raviteja starrer Krack. She also won fame for her characters in Naandhi, Yashoda and Veera Simha Reddy.
Varalaxmi despite doing negative roles, she continues playing lead roles in female centric films. Her latest film is titled Sabari where she plays lead role in the film. Today on her birthday, the makers released a making video where she is seen doing stunts too. The film is gearing up to release in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi languages.
