Maniratnam's Ponniyin Selvan and Ayan Mukherjee's Brahmastra happened to be the most awaited projects till they released. Movie lovers waited eagerly for these two films and they have given their verdict. But what is significant is Ponniyin Selvan achieved what Brahmastra couldn't.
It is known that Brahmastra faced a boycott tag and the film got mixed reviews at the box office. The makers claimed that the film collected more than Rs300crs and the entire Bollywood media in order to revive the industry which is under the onslaught of the South films, hyped up the collections with each passing day. However, the hard reality is, Brahmastra failed to reach breakeven. People are not showing interest to watch the next two parts of Bhramastra which starred Alia Bhatt, and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead with Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Shah Rukh Khan playing the cameos.
Even Ponniyin Selvan with starred Karthi,Vikram,Jayam Ravi,Aishwarya Rai,Trisha got mixed reviews but the film managed to break all the records in Kollywood. The film became the No 1 grosser in Tamil films crossing 2.0 and the makers claimed that the collections crossed Rs 400crs. The top of it the makers have already announced that the film's second part will be released next summer and they with their marketing strategies are able to generate interest among movie lovers over the second part.
This shows that Bollywood is missing something which south filmmakers have mastered. People across the country are waiting eagerly for Pushpa 2 and earlier they waited eagerly for Baahubali and KGF franchises. Kamal Haasan's Indian 2 is also generating immense hype across the country. Even Raghava Lawrence's Chandramukhi 2 is creating hype in Kollywood and down south.
