Katrina and Shahid Received Rajiv Gandhi Awards

The most coveted National honor, 12th Rajiv Gandhi National Awards took place amidst high fanfare on 19th August, 2009 at the National Centre for Performing Arts, in Mumbai. This year’s winners include stalwarts like Shahid Kapoor (Best Actor), Katrina Kaif (Best Actress), Vineet Jain (Indutrialist), Ramesh Chandra Agarwal (Journalism), Sam Pitroda (Global Indian), Dr.Narendra Jadhav (Educationist), Dr. G Madhavan Nair (Super Achiever), Krushnaa Patil (Women Achiever), Avika Gor (Child Prodigy), Rajashree Birla (Social Field), Rohit Kochhar (Young Entrepreneur), Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra (Sports) . These renowned personalities were honoured in a grand manner amidst lot of performances & entertainment extravaganza on the eve of Shri Rajiv Gandhi’ birth anniversary.

The award ceremony was graced by dignitaries like Kamalnath, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Ashok Chavan, Murli Deora, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ajay Maken, Rajiv Shukla, Priya Dutt, Milind Deora, Eknath Gaikwad, Sanjay Nirupam, Mohd. Azharuddin, Subodh Kant Sahay, Gurudas Kamat, Manikrao Thackray.

Rajiv Gandhi Awards were initiated by Shri Charan Singh Sapra, Conven title="Katrina" src="../news images/katrina-00.jpg" alt="Katrina and Shahid Kapoor" />er of the awards, in 1995 in an endeavor to keep alive the vision of his beloved leader Shri Rajiv Gandhi. Mr. Sapra set up Rajiv Gandhi Awards Committee, a trust which handles the functioning of Awards. He is also a MLC- Maharashtra and VP of Mumbai Congress. He is an avid follower of Rajivji's Ideology; Rajiv Ji is till date referred to as the modern architect of India. Hence this award ceremony in his name is synonymous with India’s future, progress, development & advancement. The event honors the achievers who are a part of India current progress. Since 12 years this platform brings together various fraternities.

Ms. Aarti Mattoo, Chairperson of Momentum Group is the Event Director of Rajiv Gandhi Awards Committee and ensured a smooth & genuine conduction of these awards and the processes therein. Every year a fool-proof jury is set up that selects the nominees. The Awards’ categories include- Education, Sports, Social, Industry, Journalism, Best Actor, Best Actress, Child Prodigy, Entrepreneurs, Global Indian, Woman Achiever, Super Achiever, hence carving a niche for itself as the only awards ceremony which brings together diverse fields.
