Social media presence for any celebrity is a double-edged sword – one never knows when it works for them or could go against them. Sonu Sood, who won many hearts by channelising his social media presence to rescue the needy on numerous occasions, received outrage today for what appeared to be a harmless tweet. The actor had posted a note in Hindi on the occasion of Shivarathri that loosely translates to, ‘Instead of forwarding the image of Lord Shiva this day, why not help a human?’

The hashtag #WhoTheHellAreUSonuSood has begun trending all across the country on Twitter, where several people commented that the actor, philanthropist could do better than commenting on one’s religious choices. Additionally, many started recycling his older tweets where there were no such messages/notes attached in his wishes conveyed on Eid or Christmas.

In response, Sonu Sood was forced to tweet, ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ with an image of the three-eyed God. This is just a sample of how low can crowds on Twitter stoop down to and spread ‘uncalled for’ bitterness among people. One wonders why heads of social media platforms have not taken any concrete action against those trends despite many such incidents in the recent past. On the work front, Sonu will be seen in big ticket releases like Acharya and Prithviraj later this year.
