The much-anticipated Telugu remake of the Hindi blockbuster Pink, Vakeel Saab featuring Pawan Kalyan, has been in the news for a variety of reasons. Among those, there has been some criticism against the makers for not showcasing the female protagonists in the film in any of its posters or promos prominently. Better late than never, hardly a month before its release, Vakeel Saab’s poster with the entire cast – Pawan Kalyan, Nivetha Thomas, Anjali, Ananya Nagalla – was released commemorating Women’s Day.

The timing of the move, of course, is apt, but has it arrived a little too late? The film’s pivotal plot revolves around the women but the producers, Dil Raju and Boney Kapoor haven’t thought beyond Pawan Kalyan in their promotions for way too long and had to choose Women’s Day to officially reveal its complete cast. Barely a few weeks from April 9, the promotions should ideally prepare the audiences that the film is as much about the female characters as it is about the Pawan Kalyan character.

In the first two months of 2021, Krack and Uppena have proved to be the most profitable ventures for producers and distributors. In March, while A1 Express has started on a good note, it has many other medium and low budget releases – Sreekaram, Rang De, Aranya, Jaathi Ratnalu, to name a few. Tollywood has been one of the rare film industries to have bounced back in full swing in 2021, so a big-budget film like Vakeel Saab must do well to sustain the good momentum.
