When Bollywood Belittled Lungiwala

Long time back, prestigious Nava Shakti Productions planned to make Jeevita Chakram with NTR, Vanisri, Sarada under CS Rao direction. They roped in Bollywood music duo Shankar-Jai Kishan to score a different musical treat to Telugu movie lovers. 

Arudra and C. Narayana Reddy penned lyrics for these songs. They called singers from Madras to Bombay for recording the songs. Legendary singer Ghantasala reached Mumbai by flight as Shankar-Jai Kishan welcomed our legendary singer in a grand manner. 

Shankar being a Hyderabadi is well aware of Ghantasala’s melodious voice and his world class singing abilities. When Ghantasala entered the recording theatre orchestra, Bollywood was surprised. Yes, Ghantasala came in a simple manner with white Kurta, Lungi and simple slippers. With no celebrity shades found in Ghantasala, they started murmuring “what this Lungiwala will sing.” 

Ghantasala interacted with Shankar-Jai Kishan and after knowing about the tune, he had a very short rehearsal and started singing to leave everyone over there in surprise. 

Shankar Jai Kishan congratulated Ghantasala for the superb song and those who belittled Ghantasala by his looks almost fell on his feet to take the blessings.
