In what can be called as a final finish of revenge to the loss of Indian men’s cricket team against Pakistan in Champions Trophy final, Indian women crushed arch rivals Pakistan by 95 runs to record third successive victory in ICC Women's World Cup.
In fact, when Indian women batted first to post a low score of 169 at the loss of 9 wickets, chances of winning were very meager. Thanks to left arm spinner Ekta Bisht (10-2-18-5) wrapped the opposition at a very low of 74 all out in just 38.1 Overs.
Ekta took the key wickets of Ayesha Zafar (1), Sidra Nawaz (0) and Iram Javed (0) in her first four Overs and never Pakistan recovered. Among the whole lot of Pakistan players, openers Nahida Khan (23 off 62 balls) and skipper Sana Mir (29) reached double figures.
‘When we got a total of 169, I knew that if we could bowl well, it could be anybody's game. I am proud of Ekta,’ said Captain Mithali Raj.
Onto Indian team, the in-form Smriti Mandhana (2), skipper Mithali Raj (8), vice Harmanpreet Kaur (10) failed to score runs while opener Punam Raut (48) was fair enough in the field. Later, it was keeper Sushma Verma (33 off 35 balls) hitting helped to reach 170 run mark!
Ekta Bisht is awarded Man of the Match.
