‘Gauthami Puthra Satakarni’ and ‘Rudhramadevi’ are two prestigious Telugu historical films released to hit verdict from audience. As a part of encouragement to film industry to produce more and more films in this genre imbibing the Telugu pride and heritage, state governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana offered tax exemption to these movies.
However, latest notices served by the High Court to ‘Satakarni’ producers Rajeev Reddy, Sai Babu, Bibo Srinu and ‘Rudhramadevi’ producers Guna Sekhar, Ragini Guna while hearing on a Public Interest Litigation case asked the producers to file a counter in two weeks.
As per the petitioner, entertainment tax exemption given for the films should belong to the public exchequer and alone producers can’t be benefited. A similar verdict given by Tamil Nadu High Court few years back is quoted for reference.
To all our known information, Satakarni received tax exemption from both TS and AP Govts while ‘Rudhramadevi’ enjoyed the benefit only in Telangana. Let us wait for reaction from respective producers of both these films.
