The other or say darker side of glamour world is touched many a times in Bollywood. Films in this backdrop based on the lives of forgotten heroines have worked wonders at Box Office. In fact, such attempts were perfectly never made in South. For example, ‘The Dirty Picture’ starring Vidya Balan reprising the character of Silk Smitha was a tremendous blockbuster.
Director Nag Ashwin is trying to repeat a similar feat in Telugu. Yes, it’s the biopic on all-time best actress Savithri. This should be definitely called as novel attempt. Reports say, Nag will be dealing only with good times of Savithri and he will not be touching on controversial elements which led to her sad demise.
Earlier to this, Jnanapith award winner Ravuri Bharadwaja wrote a novel named ‘Pakudu Rallu.’ This book exclusively dealt with behind the curtain politics in Telugu cinema industry long ago (Savithri times). It is based on the real life incidents of a fictiously created character Manjari, a top actress in yesteryears. This novel ends with suicide of heroine. Film enthusiasts said, Nag Ashwin should take ‘Pakudu Rallu’ as the base book for whatever the script he is weaving on.
