In a very long spanned career which began first as a failure distributor, Dil Raju won rare accolades for his story and script judgment. Resultantly, he is considered as a golden hand in Tollywood. Star heroes and top directors queue up to work under Dil Raju production because of the creative freedom and enormous respect they enjoy in this compound. However, the noted producer and distributor is running on a rough patch from last few years with no considerable hits to credit in his account.
‘In my first days of career, I used to manage whole production single handedly. Shirish and Laxman continued as distributors. But, our banner has grown to a bigger level where we are handling not one movie but many projects in parallel. In the same manner, I used to believe a lot in strong content and never cared about budget during my initial days. I just moved in my style enjoying the success which bought me special recognition.
Unknowingly, I went on wrong track and my story selection criterion changed. Then I started working with star heroes. My concentration has completely diverted from story, script to openings and overall revenues. I enjoyed a decent success here too but this also led me to go in a deep confusion on which route is better.
Failure results in ‘Ramaiyya Vasthavayya, Krishnashtami’ woke me up. These were classical examples on how movies can go wrong with weak stories. I think working on four to five movies at a time is the reason for negligence and unfavorable defeats. So, I thought of sharing the production burden with Sirish, Laxman and Harshith. Now, I am re-working on my strengths of picking wholesome family entertainers,’ Dil Raju explained the whole process of promoting Shirish as producer for ‘Supreme.’
