India is characterized as a typical agrarian economy with predominance of subsistence agriculture. All the Governments and political leaders vying for power target this primary sector dependent population which is so high in India. Automatically, films based on problems around agriculture and farmers in India will have a maximum reach and chances of audiences identifying with such stories are also high.

Very recently, there is a dialogue in ‘Bengal Tiger’ written by Sampat Nandi mentioned on how agriculture and Indian economy are connected. The dialogue goes like, ‘A Nation moving forward in development means the farmer and agriculture in that country is flourishing. A Nation moving backward in development also means the farmer and agriculture in that country is suffering.’
