Highly popular Indian classical dancer and also Padma Bhushan (1992) recipient Mrinalini Sarabhai is no more. She passed in Ahmedabad at the age of 97 suffering with age related ailments. Although Miranalini was admitted in hospital day before yesterday, the death was inevitable. She is a trained dancer in many classical forms like Bharata Natyam, Kathakali and Mohiniyattam.
In her personal life, Mrinalini married eminent Indian Space programme architect Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and is survived by daughter Mallika Sarabhai and son Kartikeya. Making the news official, ‘My mother Mrinalini Sarabhai has just left for her eternal dance,’ as posted on social networking by Mallika Sarabhai.
It’s matter of real privilege that Mrinalini has trained nearly 18,000 students into professional classical dancers. She is also one of the fond students to Rabindranath Tagore and was educated in Shantiniketan under the guidance of Tagore. CJ team prays for this divine soul to rest in peace.
