The tragic stories of artists working in cinema industry get an extension. If you remember the film of ‘Vedam’ from director Krissh, then you sure cannot forget the age old artist Nagayya who has done the role of Siricialla weaver who comes to Hyderabad for donating the organs. He almost left audience in uncontrollable tears with natural acting flair. The poor old man however cannot forecast a fact that he can remain only as a one movie wonder.
Later on, Nagayya acted in couple of more films. Unfortunately, none of them could bring him the recognition and identity as that of ‘Vedam.’ In fact, directors have caste Nagayya in stereotypic roles. Career wise, this is the dead end for Nagayya as he is now in a very bad financial state with no money at least to get his food. Nagayya’s son is also heard to be working in cinema industry as a spot boy.
Very recently, Nagayya appeared on the roads of Film Nagar begging to get some money for living. Movie Artists Association and Film Chamber should initiate some steps by giving a helping hand for old artists. There are many more artists like Nagayya suffering with poverty. Cinema can be a passion but it can’t bless you a healthy living.
