Big B Amitabh Bachan has received the Asian Film Culture Award for his 40 years of outstanding contribution to film career at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai late on Monday night. The Asian Film Foundation has felicitated the megastar of Indian cinema in the presence of dignitaries like Kiran Shantaram,Chairman of the Asian Film Foundation and Sudhir Nandgoankar, Director of the festival and Abhishek Bachchan.Bachchan’s old friend and ace director Ramesh Sippy handed him over the Award.
The award comes after Bachchan’s rise as the star of the millennium in a BBC news poll, ahead of such luminaries as Charlie Chaplin, Sir Lawrence Olivier and Marlon Brando.Amitabh has won many awards including three National Film Awards and twelve Filmfare Awards. He holds the record for most number of Best Actor nominations at Filmfare Awards.Asian Film Culture award is given to personalities who promote Indian cinema to the world in their capacity. Previously Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Park Kwang (South Korea), Tapan Sinha, (India) and Mrinal Sen have received this honour.
