Top Director Cuts Half of Budget

Though ‘Raavan’ in the direction of Maniratnam was completed in just above Rs.100 Crores and it fared average at BO but makers aren’t buried in losses because the film was released in three languages (versions) with different star cast. That is the commercial calculation or one can call it a formula for Mani film. Now, we hear that Mani has cut down his budget to half and is dealing his next ‘Kadal’ with just Rs.50 Crores. 

Some might say that 50 Crores for ‘Kadal’ and that too with debut star cast like Gautham Karthik and Tulasi Nair is itself risky. But, a director like Mani always asks for creative freedom with no hassles budget wise. If one has to get he brand of ‘Maniratnam Film,’ surely makers will never mind spending on this most artistic director known for National fame. By the way, ‘Kadal’ entirely runs in rural backdrop with a good star cast.
