Mythology Mania appears to have reached peak for Balakrishna. After tasting the rave reviews of ‘Sri Rama Rajyam,’ he is now keeping conditions for Nagarjuna regarding a multi star film. Yes, Balayya says that he is ready to act with Nagarjuna but decision came up only with a rider that film should be mythological which Nag should accept for.
NTR and ANR acted in good number of films including mythological. Now, their sons could as well do. NTR and ANR gave hits like ‘Maya Bazar,’ ‘Bhookailas’ and more like ‘Tenali Ramakrishna’ and ‘Chankya Chandragupta.’ In fact, the art of film making and promotion changed a lot with the changing times, examples being Balakrishna’s ‘Pandurangadu’ and Nagarjuna’s roles of ‘Annamayya’ and ‘Sri Ramadasu.’ Commercials apart, these films these days surely lacked the aesthetic sense and serenity of the old films, technical superiority notwithstanding. NTR was the undisputed mogul of mythological movies as he led a disciplined life when doing a mythological role. In fact his regimen would shrink to a pious platform and his face would radiate quality of the character he plays. Such devotion cannot be expected from others. It is seen on the face, whatever may be the cosmetic and technical dressing modern age film making may have. There are only a couple of directors who can handle mythological films to give the desired effect.
With lacking of quality artists, directors, music directors and lyricists in this scenario, Balayya and Nagarjuna joining hands for mythological film…the idea is good but resources are scarce and it asks for excellence in many departments. If such a thing happens, Tollywood stands to gain.
