Vijayawada, Oct 6: Krishna District Collector Piyash Kumar appealed to people not believe in rumours on floods and embankments of the Krishna and its numerous canals criss-crossing the delta in Guntur and Krishna districts are safe.Talking to media persons on Tuesday, he said that one embankment gave way near Repalle town in Guntur in the wee hours and submerged at least five villages. He asked the officials to evacuate people from these villages before any lives could be lost and are persuading those in other villages to leave to safer places. He said that the Irrigation and revenue officials are planning ways to prevent water from entering Repalle town.He asked to people contact control room set up at the Collectorate for any information regarding floods and don’t believe in rumours spread by some miscreants.meanwhile the full reservoir level in Prakasam Barrage touched 21.9 ft against maximum level of 23 ft.

The inflow in dam is 11.3 cusecs and outflow is 10.89 cusecs. The irrigation officials said that the outflow from the Prakasam Barrage would come down to 9 lakh cusecs by regulating the releases at Nagarjunasagar. The officials attributed this to heavy inflow of water released 24 hours ago, the time taken for the water to flow from Nagarjunsasgar to the Prakasam Barrage.People in the Diviseema area of Krishna district, especially in Hamsaladeevi village, lying in the estuary are living in the grip of fear. This village lies about seven kms from the Bay of Bengal and any breach of the river embankments, which are already being pounded by the enormous quantity of water, would spell disaster. The breaches occurred at KEB canal and Edurumundi villages have submerged 16 villages.
