Behind the Movie Prema Khaidi: Ever since Telugu audiences have seen Amala Paul in ‘Nanna,’ we came to know about her first Tamil film as ‘Mynaa’ which is now dubbed into Telugu as ‘Prema Khaidi.’ Let us see, how one more dubbing film is to affect the Tollywood BO?
In the Movie Prema Kahidi: Suri (Vidharth) and Mynaa (Amala Paul) are childhood friends who then become sweethearts. They both grow up with the only hope of getting married. Suri even helps the distressed family of Mynaa in crucial times. Although Mynaa’s mother initially ready for marriage changes mind because of Suri being uneducated plans to bring a Dubai groom.
Suri in aversion beats up Mynaa’s mother and threatens to kill her. Result is Suri lands in jail for 15 days imprisonment. As Mynaa’s mother arranges her marriage, Suri escapes from prison and elope with Mynaa but they are caught by Sub Jailor Bhaskar (Sethu) and constable Ramayya (Thambi Ramayya). During the chase before getting caught, they land up in a deep forest. Now, all four begin their journey back to attend Diwali festival.
With in no time, Suri saves Bhaksar from an accident that develops good rapport between them during the journey. Having known about deep obsession of Suri towards Mynaa, the Sub Jailor promises to get them married once Suri completes jail term. As all four reach the village on time before festival celebration, a series of misunderstandings brew up between Bhaskar’s wife Sudha (Susan) and Mynaa resulting in a terrific climax which can’t be revealed here.
Values of the Movie Prema Khaidi: Story written by Prabhu Solomon is straight with no confusing elements and heroine Mynaa being central theme of film. Screenplay however falters some times with prolonged lag yet it has enough strength to stand back on its feet. Direction of Prabhu is excellently seen in carving the characterizations of lead artists. He was too bold in deeply connecting to the rural milieu of Theni and Munaar hill areas which might give Telugu audience a feel of too much nativity. Cinematography of Sukumar is top notch to influence the flavor of total film. Editing by Doss is ineffective in certain areas. Imam’s background score is good than composing of songs. Dialogues are also okay. Production values of Subramaiam and Rupesh are also good.
Performance wise, everybody has given their 100% best. Amala Paul has expressive features and she emoted well. Vidharth is crushed, aggressive and his mannerisms of going crazy beating his father have looked absurd. For the first time, we will see supporting actors Sethu, Thambi Ramayya taking charge of penultimate scenes of climax. A great deal of performance shown by Thambi Ramayya and he is worth receiving the applause. Remaining others aren’t reminded.
Out of the Movie Prema Khaidi: Basic advantage for Prem Khaidi is the honesty in subject and honesty in its dealing by Prabhu Solomon. The adventurous journey of the four lead artists through hilly forests is a wonderful journey which will be liked by all set of audience while climax is really intuitive. It’s a challenge for Prabhu Solomon and he came out colorful.
The raw characterization of Suri and Mynaa, who live or die for togetherness is of course old styled but the rural Tamil backdrop and strong nativity adds the new angle, which might not be totally liked by regular Telugu moviegoers. BO wise, film will be loved by only a set of audience while others may find it difficult to digest. May do better business in A class centers.
In simple, ‘Prema Khaidi’ is again a pure Aravam film showing their public pulse for dark subjects and tragic narrations. Same may not be the tastes of our Telugu people whose heart goes for commercial entertainers.
Cinejosh Verdict of the Movie Prema Khaidi: A Pleasant Journey with Painful End.
