Telangana HC Questions The Paradise Ticket Price Hike
The Telangana High Court has questioned the state government’s approval allowing enhanced ticket prices for Nani’s The Paradise, which is scheduled for release on September 24. Justice NV Shravan Kumar was hearing IA No. 1 of 2026 concerning the September 20 memo permitting the price hike and special premiere screening.
The court observed that an earlier direction required proposals for increased movie ticket prices to be placed in the public domain 90 days before release. It prima facie found that this requirement was not followed before the latest memo was issued. The matter was adjourned for two weeks for the government’s counter affidavit.
The court also referred to Clause 11 of Telangana’s GO 77, which requires written reasons for permitting higher ticket prices. Reports said the court questioned whether the permission was valid without compliance with these requirements. It indicated that withdrawal could be considered, subject to giving affected beneficiaries an opportunity to be heard.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh has separately approved The Paradise premieres and enhanced ticket rates. On September 23, multiplex premieres can charge ₹400 and single screens ₹300. From September 24 to October 3, theatres can charge ₹75 extra in multiplexes and ₹50 extra in single screens, with five shows permitted daily.
