Nithya Menen was mocked for her curly hair

Nithya Menen talks about curly hair problems. Nithya Menen is known for her realistic and captivating performances and she even went on to win the  National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Thiruchitrambalam.

Speaking to scribes, Nithya shared how she was criticised for her curly hair. She said “Was I told? Everyone gets told. There was always a problem with my hair. When I did my first Telugu film, they said, 'What is this hair? It is so weird'. Today, everyone wants curly hair but at that time, it was not like that.” The National Award-winning actor added, “People say you are too tall, too short, too fat, your eyebrows were too big, hair is too big, all of it. But I had no choice. I could not be anything other than me. I couldn’t do it. If you want this, here it is. If not, it is fine with me. It was like that.”

Nithya mentioned that she finds criticism about physical appearances inelegant, "How can you criticise someone for their physical appearance? That is low-level thinking, but people do it.

On whether it affected, she said “Does it affect you? Yes, it does if you have a heart, it will affect you. If you have emotions, it will affect you. But it must affect you because only then do you grow after processing it. I always tell people if you are challenged, you should believe that you are lucky and blessed. Take on the challenges and become a better person.”

She added  “I was never this calm, I was not like this. Today I feel still. When I started, I had a lot of energy, but then this calmness comes after all this is thrown at you, and you take the garbage and process it and then shine like a diamond.”

She is now starring in Dhanush's Idly Kadai. The film is set to release on 1 oct 2025.
