Film director Sanoj Mishra, 45, has been arrested by the Nabi Karim Police following allegations of rape and exploitation by a 28-year-old woman. Mishra, who recently offered a film role to viral sensation Monalisa at the Maha Kumbh Mela, had his bail plea rejected by the Delhi High Court. According to the victim, she met Mishra in 2020 through TikTok and Instagram, and he allegedly used intoxicants to exploit her. The victim was residing in Jhansi at the time of their meeting.
Mishra allegedly threatened to die by suicide if the victim didn't meet him at the Jhansi Railway Station on June 17, 2021. Afraid for his life, she agreed to meet him, and the next day, he reportedly called again and threatened suicide, insisting she come to meet him again. The victim alleged that Mishra took her to a resort and raped her after feeding her intoxicants. He also recorded objectionable pictures and videos of her and threatened to make them public if she protested.
The victim's FIR states that Mishra called her to different places under the pretext of marriage and had physical relations with her. He also allegedly forced her to undergo abortion procedures thrice. The filmmaker's actions have been described as a prolonged period of exploitation and abuse, with the victim being manipulated into meeting him and eventually being coerced into a live-in arrangement in Mumbai. Mishra's arrest marks a significant development in the case, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
Mishra's filmography includes notable works such as "Gandhigiri," "Ram Ki Janmabhoomi," and "The Diary of West Bengal". However, his personal life has been marred by controversy, and this latest development has raised serious questions about his character and behavior. As the investigation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this will impact his career and reputation in the film industry.
