Ravi Mohan and Mohan Raja Thani Oruvan 2 Put on Hold

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2015 Tamil blockbuster Thani Oruvan has been shelved much to the dismay of Kollywood fans. The original combo of Jayam Ravi and Mohan Raja had come together for Thani Oruvan 2 with Nayanthara announced as the female lead. However despite the initial excitement the project has been put on hold due to various reasons.

One of the main reasons cited for the shelving of the project is the decline of the OTT market in recent years. The team had attempted to lock in a good OTT deal but it did not materialize. Additionally the budget of the film was reportedly very high and Jayam Ravi now changed his name as Ravi Mohan recent films did not perform as well as expected at the box office. These factors combined have led to the project being put on hold.

The news of Thani Oruvan 2 being shelved was indirectly confirmed by AGS Productions who announced their lineup of films for the next three years during the promotions of their upcoming film Dragon. Notably Thani Oruvan 2 was not mentioned in the list indicating that the sequel plans have been abandoned. The film was initially announced in 2023 with plans to go on floors in summer 2024 but nothing has materialized since then.

The shelving of Thani Oruvan 2 is a disappointing development for fans of the original film who were eagerly awaiting the sequel. Jayam Ravi and Mohan Raja collaboration on the original film was widely praised and the sequel had generated a lot of excitement. However it seems that the project is no longer moving forward at least for the time being.
