In a surprising turn of events, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix, two of the leading OTT giants, opted out of acquiring the OTT rights for Sankranthiki Vasthunam, one of this year's Sankranthi releases. Instead, they chose to invest in Game Changer and Daaku Maharaaj, which ultimately proved to be a costly mistake. Meanwhile, Zee5 secured a major coup by acquiring both the OTT and satellite rights for Sankranthiki Vasthunam.

Initially, Game Changer and Daaku Maharaaj generated significant hype, with many expecting them to dominate the box office. In contrast, Sankranthiki Vasthunam had relatively low expectations, which led Amazon Prime Video and Netflix to overlook it. However, the film's earth-shattering response at the box office has proven them wrong, with Sankranthiki Vasthunam minting huge money and heading towards the 100 crore share mark.

Zee5's last-minute acquisition of the OTT rights for Sankranthiki Vasthunam has turned out to be a wise decision, with the platform poised to reap significant benefits from the film's digital release. The satellite and post-theatrical streaming rights were acquired for an estimated Rs. 27 crores, one of the biggest deals in recent times for a Telugu film.
