Varun Tej - Matka Set to Release on Prime Video

Varun Tej's period drama 'Matka' is all set to arrive on the OTT platform, Prime Video, on December 5, 2024. The movie, which did not perform well at the box office, will now be available for streaming within a few weeks of its release. Set between 1958 and 1982, 'Matka' revolves around a popular gambler and gangster named Matka, played by Varun Tej.

The movie also stars Meenakshi Chaudhary and Nora Fatehi in lead roles. Announcing the OTT release, Prime Video India wrote, "Risk, reward & gamble – Matka Vasu is the ringmaster who rules them all. #MatkaOnPrime, December 5." The movie's director, Karuna Kumar, is known for his raw narration style, which was evident in his previous film 'Palasa'.

Varun Tej revealed in an interview with OTTplay that he was drawn to the project because of Karuna Kumar's storytelling style. He shared, "I had watched Karuna Kumar's Palasa and loved the raw narration. The way he elevated drama in that film is my style of filmmaking." Varun Tej also appreciated the opportunity to portray different age groups in the movie, which allowed him to showcase his talent.
