Rohit Shetty Clarifies: "Mission Chulbul Singham" is a Standalone Film, Not Part of Cop Universe
The highly anticipated collaboration of Salman Khan's Chulbul Pandey and Ajay Devgn's Bajirao Singham in "Mission Chulbul Singham" is indeed happening, but director Rohit Shetty has clarified that it will not be a part of his established cop universe.
In an exclusive interview with India Today Digital, Shetty explained that while his cop universe has grown organically with characters crossing paths, Chulbul and Singham operate in separate worlds. Their meeting will be a standalone film, marking a unique crossover.
"We were creating our own characters, and they were coming into each other's stories. That's how we created a universe. But these are two IPs (intellectual properties) that have never met. If all goes well, and the audience likes what we make...This has never been done before, and it’s something new for everyone. Also, Chulbul is not in the universe, nor is Singham going there. It will be two IPs and two universes meeting for one individual film," Shetty explained.
Shetty also acknowledged the brevity of Salman Khan's post-credit appearance in "Singham Again," explaining the creative decision behind the cameo. "We followed the international format where, at the end, you see a photo or a phone call. The story had already concluded, and adding Salman just because we have him... We couldn't waste him like that. It's better to have him in a small appearance rather than a full-fledged sequence, where people think, ‘Why him, zarurat nahi thi (it wasn’t needed)?’ That would have gone majorly wrong."
He added that "Mission Chulbul Singham" will take time to materialize, as it's a complex project with significant scope.
Fans will have to wait for this unique cinematic event, but one thing's for sure: the clash of these two iconic characters promises an action-packed and thrilling spectacle.
