Ram Gopal Varma served notices by cops. Controversial film director Ram Gopal Varma is facing legal action from Andhra Pradesh Police. A case has been registered against him following a complaint alleging that he made insulting comments about Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and his family members.

The complaint was filed by TDP leader Ramalingam on November 12, 2024, citing derogatory remarks made by Varma during promotional events for his film "Strategy."

On November 13, police served notices to Varma at his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. He has been summoned for questioning at the Ongolu Rural Circle Office on November 19.

The charges against Varma include Sections 336(4) and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the IT Act.

This isn't the first time Varma has courted controversy with his comments. During the previous YSRCP government, he frequently targeted opposition leaders, including Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, and Pawan Kalyan, through social media and film dialogues.

Increased Scrutiny of Social Media

Andhra Pradesh Police has recently intensified its efforts to curb online abuse and hate speech. In addition to the case against Varma, the police are investigating complaints against individuals who have posted offensive comments about public figures and their families on social media.

A complaint has also been filed against YCP leader Posani Krishna Murali for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Pawan Kalyan and his family.

The police are taking a proactive approach to address these issues, issuing notices, conducting investigations, and making arrests where necessary. They are also working to identify and take action against individuals who have shared or liked such offensive content.
