Acclaimed music composer AR Rahman is set to reunite with renowned director S Shankar for the upcoming period film "Velpari", marking their first collaboration since 2018's "2.0", starring Rajinikanth. Shankar is currently working on "Game Changer" with Ram Charan, after which he will begin pre-production on "Velpari".

"Velpari" draws inspiration from the best-selling Tamil novel "Veerayuga Nayagan Velpari" and is planned as a trilogy. Suriya is reportedly set to headline the film, with Vikram approached for a pivotal role. This potential collaboration would mark Vikram's first project with Shankar in nine years and his second with Suriya in 21 years.

The epic period film is expected to be one of the most expensive productions in Indian cinema. AR Rahman and S Shankar have a storied history of collaborations, including "Gentleman", "Kadhalan", "Indian", and "Mudhalvan". Their reunion on "Velpari" promises an unforgettable cinematic experience.

The official launch of "Velpari" is slated for 2025. Previously, Shankar had approached Rahman for "Indian 2", starring Kamal Haasan, but Rahman's commitment to the "Ponniyin Selvan" franchise led to Anirudh Ravichander's involvement instead.
