The announcement was made on Monday by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on X (formerly Twitter).

"Mithun Da's remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema," the minister shared in his post.

The award, a testament to Chakraborty's unparalleled contributions to the film industry, will be presented to him at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024.

Chakraborty, 74, embarked on his acting career with Mrinal Sen's acclaimed 1976 film "Mrigayaa," for which he earned the National Film Award for Best Actor, setting the stage for a remarkable cinematic journey.
