The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has taken decisive action to address mounting production issues, announcing a temporary suspension of new film projects from August 16th and halting all film-related activities from November 1st. This move aims to reduce backlogs, control spiraling production costs, and regulate artist wages and expenses.
The decision came after a joint meeting of representatives from the TFPC, Tamil Film Producers Association, Tamil Nadu Theater Owners Association, Tamil Nadu Multiple Theater Owners Association, and Tamil Nadu Film Distributors Association. The meeting highlighted the growing concern over actors and technicians accepting advance payments and then neglecting ongoing projects, causing substantial losses for producers.
The TFPC specifically targeted Dhanush, urging producers to consult the Tamil Film Producers Association before signing him for new projects. This action stems from a recent incident where Shree Thenandal Films claimed Dhanush received an advance payment and failed to appear for the shoot.
Further, the TFPC unanimously agreed that all star-studded films will be released on OTT platforms eight weeks after their theatrical release. This measure is intended to address the backlog of completed films awaiting release.
To tackle these challenges head-on, the TFPC has established a Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising producers, distributors, and theater owners. This committee will work to find solutions for the industry's multifaceted problems.
This bold move by the TFPC has sent shockwaves through the Tamil film industry. The suspension of new projects and the direct targeting of Dhanush highlight the seriousness of the issues facing the industry. The JAC's formation and the new guidelines indicate a strong push to address these concerns and ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for Tamil cinema.
