Sankranti releases having huge stakes. After a less-than-stellar performance in 2023, Tollywood producers and distributors are eagerly anticipating the Sankranthi releases to rejuvenate the industry and kick-start 2024 on a positive note. The clash of big-ticket films such as ‘Guntur Kaaram’, ‘Saindhav’, ‘Naa Saami Ranga,’ ‘Eagle’ and ‘Hanu-Man’ at the box office from January 12 onwards has the industry holding its breath, with more than Rs 250 crores riding on these festival releases.

A leading distributor expresses optimism, stating, "Mahesh Babu's film leads the pack with a Rs 100 crore business, followed by movies of Venkatesh, Nagarjuna, Ravi Teja, and Hanu-Man, collectively valued at over Rs 150 crores. January 2024 is poised to begin with a bang." However, with only around 1200 theaters available in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh combined, producers are engaged in discussions to strategically space out the releases. The distributor emphasizes the importance of avoiding collection crunch and allowing each star-studded film sufficient time to draw significant openings.

Acknowledging that the success of a film depends on the novelty of its content and narration, the distributor emphasizes the need to move away from clichéd fare. He acknowledges that while stars need time to attract initial crowds, ultimately, the audience will determine the fate of the movie.

Producer-turned-distributor Dil Raju holds significant stakes in the Sankranthi releases, distributing three out of the five movies, including 'Guntur Kaaram,' 'Naa Saami Ranga,' and 'Saindhav' in the Nizam region. Dil Raju, along with other stakeholders, is keen on resolving the release stalemate and planning a coordinated release schedule. The financial implications are substantial, and avoiding clashes would be a prudent option.

The distributor emphasizes the massive significance of the Sankranthi festival for Tollywood, asserting that it provides a crucial opportunity for Telugu films to thrive. He draws a contrast with Tamil Nadu, where Diwali holds greater prominence for filmmakers. In conclusion, he underscores the festival's importance, citing the enthusiasm of Telugu audiences in both states for watching movies during the four-day Sankranthi celebration.
