Censor Board on Corruption Allegations. Tamil actor-producer Vishal has recently made serious corruption allegations against the Mumbai office of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He claimed that the office demanded a bribe for certification. In response, CBFC issued an official statement, emphasizing their 'zero tolerance for corruption' and their commitment to addressing the issue.
The statement highlights that despite the existence of the online certification system, some film producers still choose to apply through intermediaries or agents, contrary to the objective of eliminating third-party involvement in the certification process. CBFC takes the allegations seriously and promises strict action against anyone found involved. They also stress that any attempt to tarnish the CBFC's image will not be tolerated.
Vishal had accused CBFC Mumbai of demanding a bribe of Rs 6.5 lakh for the Hindi version of his film 'Mark Antony.' He shared a video and wrote a post on social media addressing the issue. In the caption, he expressed his concern about corruption in government offices, especially CBFC Mumbai.
Vishal clarified that he wanted to bring this issue to light and didn't want to fight corruption behind the scenes. He praised Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their swift response to the matter and noted that cinema often reflects society's issues.
However, former censor board member Ashoke Pandit maintained that the individuals Vishal mentioned have never been part of the board, suggesting that the corruption might involve external parties rather than CBFC officials.
This incident has raised concerns about corruption in the film certification process, and Vishal's efforts to address it have garnered significant attention.
