Mahima Nambiar on 800.Legendary Srilankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan's biopic 800 is generating immense interest. The film directed by M.S. Sripathy stars Madhur Mittal in the lead role. The film's trailer released by Cricket God Sachin Tendulkar got tremendous response.
Mahima Nambiar is playing the role of Muralitharan's wife Madhi in the film. Speaking to scribes, Mahima shared her excitement. She said "When I first heard the script and later had the opportunity to meet Murali, I became convinced of the importance of sharing this remarkable story. While most people know Muralitharan as a legendary cricketer, it is equally crucial for the world to understand the challenges he faced in his life. I truly believe that this film has the power to change people's perception of Murali," she passionately shares, emphasizing that the film delves deeper into Murali as a person, beyond his cricketing fame.
Mahima vividly recalls her initial meeting with Murali's wife during the shooting in Sri Lanka. The scene being filmed was the moment when Murali and Madhimalar first meet. "On the sets, someone called me for a group photo, and as I was exiting the house, Murali's mother mistook me for Madhi and exclaimed, 'Hey Madhi, come quickly!' It was a humorous slip, but she quickly realized her mistake and said, 'Oh, sorry, I thought it was Madhi, but you really look like her.' That moment, to me, felt like the greatest validation," Mahima fondly remembers.
Although Murali hails from Sri Lanka and Madhimalar from Chennai, India, Mahima was deeply moved by the emotional challenges Madhimalar endured after their marriage. One of the dilemmas she faced was being asked whom she supported when Sri Lanka played India. "Murali was instrumental in helping her maintain her composure. The beautiful companionship and emotional connection between the couple are truly heartwarming," the actress reflects. Madhimalar, in turn, provided the much-needed emotional support to Murali, who faced numerous crises in his cricketing career, including the chucking controversy, injuries, and shoulder surgery, all while being under constant pressure.
Mahima further elaborates, "Their marriage was arranged, but there's an intriguing twist to the story. Allegedly, Murali wasn't keen on marriage at that time as he wanted to focus solely on cricket. However, when he met Madhimalar, he was completely smitten; they connected instantly. As for Madhimalar, she wasn't initially into cricket but made an effort to understand the game more after their marriage."
Reflecting on her role, Mahima acknowledges that her biggest challenge was portraying a composed character, given her previous roles which were often characterized by a bubbly and energetic persona. "I had to unlearn a lot and learn to maintain my composure, stability, and not get carried away. It was a challenging transformation for me. The director granted me the freedom to add my unique touch to the character, making it truly distinct," she explains, expressing hope that this role will open doors to more substantial and diverse opportunities in her acting career.
