Behind the Movie 3: The ‘Kolaveri Di’ rage of Dhanush and Shruti Hasan has finally released yesterday making this as directorial debut of Aishwarya Dhanush. Not to mention in special, Tamil directors always experiment with different storylines and ‘3’ is going to run on similar lines. Let us see, how captivating is this flick?
In the Movie 3: Start it from the first phase or young days of Ram, a wealthy son of a sweet mother (Bhanu Priya) who is studying Intermediate will instantly fall in love with middle class school girl Janani (Shruthi Hasan). In minimum time, the girl too is impressed and love blossoms. As usual when parents oppose, they get married in a Pub very next moment after becoming majors. Now, both of them enter into second phase of life which steers through different emotions leading to experience of sudden change in Ram’s behavior. Thus, he is diagnosed for ‘Psychological Bi-Polar Disorder’ with variant moods. As Janani tolerates every move of Ram, he is already into Third phase of life to take a decision on relieving his wife from his illness. What is that decision forms the climax.
Values & Out of the Movie 3: To mention in specific, the very idea of traversing through 3 stages of a human being’s life is itself innovative. Director Aishwarya Dhanush’s holding of first and second stages is a commendable work while third goes out of her control. Had she focused more on screenplay and execution of second half, ‘3’ would have easily come out with ‘3 Cheers’ kind of verdict. Instead the darker emotions exposed in second half failed to connect with Telugu audience. There is odd mix of Thriller cum Tragic kind of emotional experience for viewers with excessive melodrama taking the driver’s seat. There will be a complete contrast in genre of first and second halves. Unlike Dhanush, it is not easy for regular viewers to travel through such extreme state of minds. Cinematography by Vel Raja is good while editing by Kola Bhaskar definitely needed a trimming of second half and to mention especially in last minutes of climax. Music by Anirudh is wonderful while background is much more delighting. Unfortunately, ‘Kolaveri Di’ picturization will live you with inadequately weak comments. Great to see a producer like Natti Kumar, betting on odd concept!
Performance wise Dhanush lived marvelously as Ram on the screen. He explored the infinitesimal of expressions needed to elevate Ram and his sufferings. Just awesome is the word to describe his level as an artist. Thanks to Shruthi who finally proves to be an artist of some matter. Although flooded away by excellence of Dhanush, even Shruthi needs to be praised for her weepy and sorrowful scenes. Of the others, Bhanu Priya, Rohini and Prabhu are up to their tasks.
Films like ‘3’ will be well suitable for winning the awards. When it comes to winning of Box Office, absolutely there is no such broad heart for patronage in Telugu land due to missing of commercial values. Instead, people will recognize how good an actor like Dhanush is and how wise he selects the films. On the other side, Aishwarya Dhanush will get mixed evaluations. However, her way of dealing the first half colorfully with cheerful youth elements keeping us entertained is a positive side. Coming to second half…it’s a thorough disappointment with indigestive slow paced treatment missing in all the aspects. Good intentions of not to introduce any comedy elements in second half in order not hinder the depth of emotions turned fatal. In overall, ‘3’ ends on a serious tragic note burdening the patrons much more.
Cinejosh Verdict of the Movie 3: Sorry…we are not as artistic as Tamil hearts!
