TDP memo to CM on M'rashtra projects over Godavari

A team of Telugu Desam leaders including those drawn from six Telangana districts that benefit from Sriramsagar project met Chief Minister K Rosaiah at his camp office here on Monday morning over the construction of 14 illegal projects taken up by Maharashtra Government across river Godavari.

The Tdp leaders urged the Chief Minister to prevail upon the Centre and the Maharashtra Government to immediately halt unauhtorised constructions across the river which hamper the interests of the state Government.

The delegation comprising Nama Nageswar Rao, M Narasimhulu, Kadiam Srihari and Mandava Venkateswara Rao urged the State Government to direct the Maharashtra Government to obide by the Supreme Court direction to lift the crest gates on all the 13 barrages built illegally.

The party reiterated that every political party which has failed to react on the illegal projects of Maharashtra across Godavari is a traitor of Telangana region. Maharashtra Government has gone ahead with Babli project and 13 other barrages-cum-reservoirs across the river  due to the inability of the Congress government in the state.

Even the Sriramsagar Project will go dry if Maharashtra completes all the 14 projects taken up on Godavari.

The party is also planning to go to New Delhi on June 29 to represent the issue to Central Water Commission and Union Water Resources Minister. Against the claims of Maharashtra that only 8.7 TMC ft would be utilised with the barrages, it was planning to siphon off 167 TMC Godavari waters illegally leaving the Sriramsagar Project to go dry.

The ayacut of 18 lakh acres in Nizamabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nalgonda and Khammam districts would turn into a desert, if all the illegal projects were completed, the Tdp leaders noted.
