Stating that the Foreign University Bill could damage the country's education system, members belonging to the Students Federation of India on Monday tried to picket the Raj Bhavan.
Raising slogans against Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal’s move to pass the bill in Parliament, the student leaders said they would not allow the passage of the Bill in haste.
“The bill can change the education system and ruin the present system," the Sfi leaders said.If the bill is passed, the students belonging to SC/ST/BCs would not get the benefit of quota in higher education and social justice would become first casualty, they said.
The Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operation) Bill, 2010, which was approved by the Cabinet, seeks to allow foreign education providers to set up campuses in the country and offer degrees.
Protesting the government’s plan to allow entry of foreign educational institutions in the higher education sphere, the students tried to picket the Raj Bhavan. However, the police intervened before taking the leaders into custody.
