Curfew in nine police station limits in Old City was relaxed on Thursday.
Police Commissioner A K Khan told newsmen the curfew was relaxed in some violence-affected areas of Old City after the situation improved.
Curfew was relaxed in Charminar, Hussainnialam, Kalapattar, Santoshnagar, Madannapeta, Bhavaninagar, Bahadurpura, Kanchanbagh and Kamatipura police station limits between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The elderly, women and children were allowed to buy groceries, vegetables and milk, Khan pointed out.
However, many medical shops were closed in several curfew-relaxed areas including Falaknama. This inconvenienced the sick people. The vegetable vendors quoted high price in view of the rot and losses they suffered in the past five days of violence.
Curfew was also relaxed for two hours in Mirchowk, Dabirpura, Rainbazar, Moghulpura,Falaknuma, Chandrayana Gutta and Shalibanda since 11 a.m.
Curfew would also be eased elsewhere after reviewing the situation with Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, local leaders and officials in a phased manner, Khan suggested.
The city was limping back to normal, the commissioner said and appealed to the people to maintain calm and help the police in restoring the situation.
After the curfew was relaxed, people thronged to markets to buy vegetables, grocery and milk. The traders seemed to exploit the situation by increasing the prices.
