Curfew is likely to be relaxed for two hours on Thursday morning in the 25 police station areas of Hyderabad, the city’s Police Commissioner, A.K. Khan, told reporters on Wednesday.
``The curfew will be lifted only if no untoward incidents are reported till Wednesday night. By and large the city remained peaceful till noon,’’ Mr. Khan said.
Indefinite curfew was clamped first in all the 17 police stations of South Zone of Old City from 7 p.m. on Monday following outbreak of communal clashes claiming one life. Further it was extended to eight more police stations, six in west zone and one each in central and east zones, as violence spread to these areas as well on Tuesday.
The city was peaceful on Wednesday. No untoward incident was reported till 4.30 p.m. while a large number of police contingents were deployed at all vulnerable and communally sensitive points in the city.
