Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday announced that his cabinet would pass a resolution seeking Bharat Ratna for former Prime Minister late PV Narasimha Rao.
Speaking at the 93rd birth anniversary celebrations of late Narasimha Rao at PV Gnana Bhoomi on Necklace Road here, Kcr recalled the services of Narasimha Rao for the people of this country, especially the Telugus. He said it was APV who brought recognition to Telugu people at the global level. Therefore, he said that the Centre should confer Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, to Narasimha Rao, the first Telugu Prime Minister. He also asked the Centre to construct a memorial for Narasimha Rao in New Delhi.
Kcr also announced that the government would construct a memorial, name a district and university after Narasimha Rao. He praised Narasimha Rao for introducing revolutionary economic reforms during his tenure as the Prime Minister. He said those economic reforms gave a boost to country's economy and placed it on the path of growth.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor ESL Narsimhan appreciated the State Government for celebrating PV's birth anniversary as a State function.
Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Finance Minister Etela Rajender, Transport Minister Mahednder Reddy, MPs K Kavitha, Bandaru Dattatreya, Dr K. Keshav Rao, Jithender Reddy, Telugu litterateur C Narayana Reddy, PV's son Rajeshwar Rao, Congress senior leaders K. Jana Reddy and Dr J Geeta Reddy and several others participated in the event and paid rich tributes to the former Prime Minister.
